Keeley Hawes has a theory about mumbling telly stars

KEELEY HAWES has weighed in on why so many TV shows seem to be hard to hear these days.
Telly dramas from Happy Valley to SS-GB have all been plagued by viewers complaining about actors ‘mumbling’.
The issue has even been discussed in Parliament — and dismissed as a matter of passing ‘fashion’.
But it’s not down to diva-ish directors or actors’ poor enunciation, The Durrells actress says — it’s probably just your TV set.
‘My take, and I think it has been established, is that there is a huge change in how we watch TV and what we watch it on,’ she told the Daily Mirror.
‘I know in my house we have a flat screen, as most people do, and we have a sound bar.
‘We have a TV in another room without a sound bar and the sound is less good. I think that is part of the problem.’
Mystery solved… so long as you know what the heck a sound bar is and how to alter it.
