Stars out in force to launch movie sequel of Mamma Mia!

THERE was definitely something in the air last night when Meryl Streep and Cher shone bright as the sequel to smash hit Abba musical Mamma Mia! had its world premiere in the UK.
British actors Lily James and Colin Firth, who also star in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, joined the two VIP US visitors on a special blue carpet at the Eventim Apollo in London.
Cher, 72, appears as the mother of the character played by Streep — who turned 69 last month — and revealed that the pair have ‘had a good laugh about it’.

‘Meryl still thinks it’s hysterical, it was a great plot point and we laughed about it a lot,’ she said.
Abba pop legends Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson also attended the premiere, along with cast members Amanda Seyfried, Pierce Brosnan, Andy Garcia and Dominic Cooper.
Director Ol Parker arrived with wife Thandie Newton and their daughters.

James, 29, plays young Donna in the new film. But she has revealed she will not be reprising her role as Lady Rose in the forthcoming Downton Abbey movie.
‘My character Rose moved off to New York, so it would be far-fetched to bring her back,’ she told People magazine.
