Stanley Johnson: I didn’t tell Boris I’d signed up for the Jungle

BORIS Johnson may be in hot water currently for misspeaking about a Brit mum held captive in Iran, but his dad Stanley revealed today that, unlike his son, he knows exactly when to shut up.
The 77-year-old I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! contestant said he was so conscious of confidentiality when he signed up to take part in the ITV reality show, he didn’t even tell his foreign secretary son that he was jetting off Down Under.
‘We were told strictly not to tell anybody… I stick by the rules,’ Stanley told the Daily Mirror.
He added that he’d be surprised if Boris even notices he’s gone.
‘Boris doesn’t know I’m going. I very much doubt he’ll ever hear about it. Knowing Boris, he may never find out,’ he said.
When asked about calls for his son’s resignation over the Iranian affair, Stanley pleaded ignorance, saying he’d ‘been out of touch for three weeks’.

The former MEP is joint favourite with Hollyoaks star Jamie Lomas to be crowned King of the Jungle — and he certainly doesn’t think age will be a barrier.
‘It’ll be easy peasy,’ he said. ‘I’m very scared of bears, but I think the trials will be all good. I’m in there to win.’
Other contestants on the survival show, which returns with Ant and Dec on Sunday, include Corrie’s Jennie McAlpine, The Saturdays’ Vanessa White, Made In Chelsea’s Georgia Toffolo and boxer Amir Khan.
Comedian Shappi Khorsandi, YouTube personality Jack Maynard, ex-footballer Dennis Wise and Rebekah Vardy, the wife of footballer Jamie Vardy, will also take part in the programme.
