Smith drops bomb on Carpool’s Corden

THERE’S been a fair bit of fawning between driver and passenger in Carpool Karaoke’s short history, but Will Smith dropped an ego-busting bombshell when he joined James Corden in the latest outing.
The Hollywood A-lister revealed he had only pretended to recognise the former Gavin & Stacey star when they’d first met at an awards ceremony.
Corden, who rapped along with Smith during the show, said he felt he could count the actor among his fans shortly after their first encounter, but the former Fresh Prince said it had been a sham.
As they drove around Los Angeles, the Man In Black star, 48, said: ‘It was the first time we met. We talked and it was, “Ah man you know it’s great, I love what you do”… we did all of that.
‘I didn’t really know you then. I had to look you up after.’
Corden, laughing, said: ‘I remember it so clearly. I think I even texted a friend of mine and I was like, “Dude, Will Smith is so into me – it’s incredible”.’
The episode saw the pair fly in a helicopter before Smith supposedly abandoned his driver on top of the US Bank skyscraper in Los Angeles.
They also rapped along to Smith’s musical hits, including The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air theme and Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It.
Smith mocked Corden, 38, after the Briton said he had a rap troupe at school, and his pseudonym was Chub Nasty.
Corden is an executive producer on the show and will appear in some of the episodes.
Miley Cyrus, John Legend and Ariana Grande are among the stars who will feature in the online show.
The first episode of the series based on a segment from The Late Late Show With James Corden was made available earlier today on Apple Music.
