Sir Rod explains THAT ‘beheading’ video: We were just larking about

ROD STEWART has been forced to issue an apology after footage emerged online of him taking part in what looked like a mock execution.
The video, which was posted on his wife Penny Lancaster’s Instagram account, clearly showed the Hot Legs singer and pals dancing along a sand dune before Sir Rod got one of mates to kneel down while he seemed to hack at his neck with his hand.
The footage, now deleted, attracted criticism for its echoes of Daesh terrorist beheadings — particularly those attributed to “Jihadi John” (aka Mohammed Emwazi), who is believed to have brutally murdered British aid workers on film in 2014.
One Twitter user posted: ‘Rod Stewart mocking up an ISIS beheading ?!!How deeply, deeply stupid What a clueless prat.’
While another hoped he ‘gets his knighthood stripped’, adding: ‘Let’s hope nothing like that happens to his family. He should be jailed. It’s not funny.’
But Rod, who is performing in Abu Dhabi as part of his world tour, has offered his ‘deepest apologies’ and explained that his actions were ‘misinterpreted’.
‘From re-enacting the Beatles’ Abbey Road crossing to spontaneously playing out Game Of Thrones, we were simply larking about pre-show,’ he said in a statement.
‘Understandably, this has been misinterpreted and I send my deepest apologies to those who have been offended.’
Penny, meanwhile, has been busy posting less controversial images from their trip on the photo-sharing site, including ones of the pair getting henna tattos.
Hopefully, Sir Rod will steer clear of any more desert-based antics on his next stop Las Vegas, Nevada, on March 15.
