Salma: I saw the ‘freaky’ Oscars mix-up coming

SALMA HAYEK has revealed she had a unique vantage point on last night’s monumental Oscars mix-up.
The Frida actress happened to be backstage when Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty mistakenly announced La La Land rather than Moonlight as the best picture winner.
‘I actually heard the stage manager standing in front of me saying, “No, no, no! That is not the movie,”‘ she told Entertainment Tonight.
‘And so I saw it before it happened. I said, “What are they going to do now?” and then I said, “Oh my god, they are going to say it.”‘
But Salma managed to put a positive spin on events, saying: ‘It was kind of freaky but exciting — and I am just glad at least two movies got to get up on stage and be celebrating.’
Well, that’s certainly one way of looking at it.
It’s still not known how the mix-up, which saw Warren look awkwardly at the card before handing over reading duties to Faye, occurred.
Initial theories seemed to place the blame with Emma Stone’s Best Actress envelope being passed to Warren, but the La La Land star moved to kill those rumours saying the card never left her hand.
The accountancy firm responsible for processing the votes has since explained that there was a duplicate set of envelopes in a separate briefcase, and it is investigating what went wrong.
Meanwhile, that wasn’t the only gaffe to go down at this year’s Academy Awards.
Moana’s Auli’i Cravalho was hit by a rogue flag during her performance:
Meryl Streep nearly took a tumble while wearing the dress that she’d snubbed Karl Lagerfeld for:
And, perhaps worst of all, best actor winner Casey Affleck realised belatedly he’d forgotten to thank his kids:
Ah, well, at least he didn’t forget his brother Ben this time.
