Sage fright… how Zac Efron coped with his role as a serial killer

ZAC EFRON needed his friends to ‘spiritually cleanse’ him after filming his scenes as serial killer Ted Bundy.

Efron plays the notorious figure — the inspiration for Hannibal Lecter — in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil And Vile.

Bundy, who was executed in 1989, confessed to 30 murders. To cope with such an intense role, Efron asked pals to waft burning sage around him.

‘I had some friends sage me,’ explained the 30-year-old. ‘You know, do a little spiritual cleansing.’

Describing the film, he said it tells ‘how the world was charmed by this guy who was notoriously evil’.
