Rod v Elton: Your retirement tour ‘stinks’

ROD STEWART has hit out at Elton John’s retirement tour plans — saying they are ‘dishonest’ and ‘not rock and roll’.
In an interview with US chat show host Andy Cohen, the Forever Young singer said he would never announce a swansong tour himself, adding that it ‘stinks of selling tickets’.
Last month, Elton announced he would retire after an epic globe-spanning 300-date tour.
At the time, he explained: ‘I always thought I was going to be like Ray Charles, BB King — on the road forever. My priorities have changed. We had children and it changed our lives.
‘That doesn’t mean to say I’m not going to be creative. But I’m not going to travel.’

But his fellow pop icon is unimpressed, telling a phone-in listener who asked what he thought: ‘Well I did email her [Elton] and said, “What, again, dear?’” But I didn’t hear anything back.’
Stewart also said if he stops touring, he won’t be shouting about it.
‘I’ve never spoken spoken of retirement, and if I did retire I wouldn’t make an announcement, I’ll just fade away,’ he said.
Rod added it wasn’t his style to make a ‘big deal’ out of retiring because ‘it stinks of selling tickets’.
Then, perhaps feeling he hadn’t quite stuck the boot in enough, he finished up with: ‘It’s dishonest, it’s not rock ‘n’ roll.’
Elton has yet to comment, but let’s hope the two don’t fall out over this — and that sorry doesn’t prove to be the hardest word…
