Ricky Gervais and co mock ‘well hung’ parliament

YOU may have noticed a little thing called a general election just took place — and our comedy greats lost no time in mocking its chaotic outcome.
Even before the results were known, comedian Ricky Gervais posted a picture of himself on Twitter, captioned: ‘I’m going to bed wishing for a well hung parliament.’

And Great British Bake Off’s Sue Perkins quipped that former UKIP leader Nigel Farage was not an MP, ‘Just a man in a camel coat holding a pint of beer, ranting. Treat him thus.’
Sounding a bit like Blackadder, comedian David Schneider wrote: ‘May has failed at the biggest gamble a Prime Minister has ever made since the biggest gamble a Prime Minister ever made last year.’
Other showbiz types had a more sober response, with comedian Russell Brand tweeting: ‘For the first time in a long time politics in this country feels optimistic. What a beautiful response. Well done everyone.’
Singer Liam Gallagher left off slating his brother for a while to post: ‘Ch ch ch ch changes turn and face the strange as you were LG x’
Former England captain Gary Lineker said Theresa May had won the ‘own goal of the season’, while singer Lily Allen simply wrote: ‘Respect Your Youngers.’
Comedian David Walliams, meanwhile, may have summed up the general mood when he tweeted: ‘Oh Theresa, what have you done?’
