Pressure to be sexy sets off Alarm bells for Anne-Marie
ANNE-MARIE has sounded the Alarm over her struggles to be a ‘sexy’ pop star — and she puts the blame on her ‘double chin’.
In an exclusive chat with Guilty Pleasures, she said there was a weight on her to conform and look picture-perfect at all times.
‘I do feel pressure to look good,’ the singer admits. ‘But that’s just not going to happen because I have a double chin and I can’t pose.’
Hitting the red carpet fills the Essex girl with dread.
‘It’s such a struggle. I watch some women and they just know how to do it,’ she sighed. ‘There’s so much to think about, hundreds of cameras at every angle… I think, “Oh my god, my chin”.’
But Anne-Marie — a three-time world karate champion — hopes to smash the mould.
‘I don’t want to have to look good all the time — that’s not realistic,’ she said. ‘I’m slowly breaking that thing of what people expect, whether that’s posting a few videos on social media without make-up, or walking in baggy, unstyled clothes,’ she said. ‘Hopefully they can just accept me as “normal”.’
The 26-year-old chart-topper releases new track Heavy, from Drake’s go-to producer Nana Rogues, this week.
It’s about the honeymoon phase of a relationship ending — and the singleton confesses not much is happening in her love life at present.
‘I’m such a bad flirt!’ she exclaims. ‘I can’t see the signs if someone fancies me.’
Meanwhile, Anne-Marie shared her pal Ed Sheeran is badgering her to release their duet.
‘It’s so sick,’ she teased. ‘We speak a lot about the song. He’ll say, “When are you putting it out, bitch?”’
