Piers Morgan gets a scalding after slating Cher

PIERS MORGAN couldn’t resist telling Cher she should ‘grow old gracefully’ and ‘put them away’ following her remarkable performance at the Billboard Music Awards — but he soon got his comeuppance.

The 71-year-old singer performed two of her best-loved tracks — Believe and Turn Back Time — at the ceremony last night, after being honoured with an icon award.

But reviewing the footage on Good Morning Britain today, Piers wasn’t happy about the two raunchy oufits she wore — one a silver tasseled confection with nude-look bra and a pink heart pastie over her left nipple, the other a buttock-revealing sheer black number complete with enormous wig and biker jacket.

‘At what point do Cher’s outfits… garb become inappropriate? She’s 70,’ the outraged presented said.

But his co-host Susanna Reid replied sarkily: ‘Oh yes, because you have a cut off, don’t you? What is it… 59?’

And fellow presenter Kate Garraway pointed out that ‘different rules’ apply when it comes to performance.

‘She’s on stage, it’s not like she in the supermarket,’ she said.

But Piers wasn’t about to let this go.

‘She’s a grandmother,’ he said. ‘It’s like, for goodness sake, just put it away, grow old gracefully, put them away.’

But Susanna disagreed, saying: ‘I think she’s growing old beautifully.’

To which Piers snarked: ‘I think her surgeon’s probably working over time,’ before branding the look ‘toe-curling’.

‘Are you going to be doing that when you’re 70?’ he demanded of Susanna.

But she replied: ‘I’d be doing it now if I looked lke that!’

And karma arrived swiftly for Piers as he later grew animated and managed to pour half his cuppa into his lap.

Reid couldn’t resist quipping: ‘That’s the spirit of Cher… Cher has a huge smile on her face right now.’

Viewers, however, had mixed feelings, with one agreeing with Piers, tweeting: ‘It’s time 4 #cher 2 stop turning back time. She’s 71 & dressed like that, she’ll miss out on the winter fuel allowance.’

Another declared she looked ‘fabulous’ but it was time for an update because her look was ‘#Locked in 80s’.

But Cher fans urged her to ignore the haters, with one posting: ‘She’s got a better body than some people way younger than her so why not flash and flaunt it. I know I would.’
