Olly Murs is on the up, yet can’t find dream girl
HE HAS sold 25million records worldwide and this week launches his own TV show.
But while Olly Murs’s career goes from strength to strength, his love life has been forced to take a back seat.
Indeed his single status has become such a running joke fellow The Voice coach Jennifer Hudson has vowed to set Olly up on a blind date.
In an exclusive interview with Guilty Pleasures, the 34-year-old Essex lad revealed: ‘I’d be intrigued to see who she would set me up with and what kind of person she thinks might suit me because she has got to know me pretty well. That would be funny.’
Olly recently raised eyebrows when he spoke about his role as a mentor on ITV’s The Voice, which returns to our screens next month.
‘Spinning these chairs could be the only way I ever could find love,’ he admitted. ‘It’s like speed dating. I only get to hear their voice, so it would be love at first sight. Crazier things have happened. It would be amazing if I did find love on The Voice.’
But the Troublemaker singer, whose new album You Know, I Know is out now, said he was only messing about.
Putting the record straight, he said: ‘I jokingly said that The Voice is interesting because you meet these contestants and you don’t know what they look like or what they sound like.
‘Someone said, “it could be like a dating thing”, and I replied, “I suppose it could be”.
‘But I wouldn’t ever date a contestant,’ said Olly who first shot to fame in 2009, when he was runner-up on The X Factor.
‘I wouldn’t want to risk losing my job,’ he quipped. ‘Of course, I am flirty. It’s a natural part of my persona, and I can’t help my personality. But I read the other day that I am happy to get sacked if I meet the love of the my life! Are they mad?’
Olly also insists he won’t be sad to be single this Christmas, joking it will be cheaper as he won’t have to buy any presents for a special someone. ‘People talk about my love life more than me,’ he laughed.
‘I’m very happy being single. Really, there’s no search on for a girlfriend.
‘It’s a cheaper Christmas isn’t it? I haven’t got to spend any money which is good. And I can buy my sister and my mum more presents.’
Olly’s new show, Happy Hour with Olly Murs, will be on ITV at 9pm on Saturday.
It will see him take over a pub for one night only for an evening of games and chat with TV stars that include Noel Edmonds, Bradley Walsh and Emma Willis.
