Noel Gallagher lifts lid on Bono’s bonkers world

NOEL GALLAGHER joked he was ‘sweating beer’ and needed ‘rehab’ after touring with Bono.
The ex-Oasis star lifted the lid on the U2 star’s bonkers world, after being roped into impromptu lunches with political leaders and bundled on to private jets.
After one ‘brutal’ 5am session, he awoke in a strange room when a telephone rang.
Noel shared: ‘It’s Bono on the phone. He says, “Oh you’re alive. Where are you?” I was like, “I’m supposed to be in your house, but I don’t know where I am?” I was in a guesthouse at the bottom of his garden.’
Bono, 57, then told him: ‘“Come on, everybody’s waiting.” I go, “What for?” He said, “The lunch I’m throwing in your honour. Seventy-five guests have arrived. The president of Ireland’s here… you’re sitting next to him. Hurry up”.’
The High Flying Birds frontman said the do went on until 4am the next day — and only ended as he and Bono had to fly to Paris for a gig.
That’s when Noel, who’s new album Who Built The Moon? is out in November, thought: ‘I can’t do it any more. Once he’s out of sight I’m going straight to rehab.’
But before he could do a ‘runner’, a dressing gown-clad Bono ‘accosted’ him backstage with ‘two beers and scrambled eggs’.
Twenty minutes later, Bono was on TV with the French premier talking ‘about Africa’.
Noel, 50, told Absolute Radio’s Christian O’Connell: ‘I know what we’ve been up to for the previous three days and I’m going “He’s not real, man.”’
