The star of TV’s Big Little Lies, who turns 50 later this month, said she had expected to fall victim to ageism. Picking up Glamour’s film actress award, the mum-of-four — Oscar-nominated for the fourth time this year — explained: ‘When I was 40, I remember thinking, “When I’m 50 I’ll be retiring” — no way!

‘I want to tell all the women out there that it’s not over at 40, it begins, and it begins even more at 50.’
