Maggie’s down on Downton film

DAME MAGGIE SMITH has said a possible Downton Abbey film risks squeezing the hit drama series dry.

The 82-year-old actress played the Dowager Countess in the series by writer Julian Fellowes, who has said he is working on a screenplay.

Asked at a TV festival in London if she would appear in the film she said: ‘I just think it’s squeezing it dry. I don’t know what it could possibly be.’

She added that her fame from the show means she now can’t lead ‘a normal life’.
