Kryten’s Red Dwarf co-stars finally feel his pain
YOUR eyes are not deceiving you — that is a picture of all four members of the Red Dwarf crew made up to look like the android Kryten.
Craig Charles, Chris Barrie and Danny John-Jules got a taste of what their co-star Robert Llewellyn has been enduring all these years after they too spent hours in make-up being transformed into mechanoids.
‘It was so uncomfortable, so hot, I thought I was crying at one point, but I wasn’t — I was sweating through my eyes!’ said Craig.
Danny aka The Cat agreed it was ‘quite disturbing’.
‘The thing was we could only see your eyes, scary it actually looks like you in the mask,’ he said.
Chris said he didn’t mind the transformation until it came time to eat lunch…
‘When you’re working I’m not bothered about it, but when you’re having to wait, and you’re in the mask and you can’t do anything, you’re thinking, “Is this going to come off?!”‘ he said.
But all three developed a new respect for their colleague Rob.
Danny admitted they used to think he was being ‘a big wuss’ when he mentioned his discomfort, but after their latest filming experience, they ‘literally went out bowing to Rob because it was amazing’.
