Kelly Clarkson: I’m not afraid to smack when my kids are playing up

KELLY CLARKSON credits a glass of plonk and the odd smack for helping her cope with bringing up four children.
The star says she has her hands full at all times with daughter River, three, and 20-month-old son Remington [pictured], plus hubby Brandon Blackstock’s two children from a previous marriage.
‘They are challenging,’ admitted Kelly, a mentor on the US version of The Voice. ‘Wine is necessary.’

The Stronger singer says that sometimes taking the edge off with some vino isn’t enough when it comes to keeping the brood in check.
‘I’m not above a spanking, which people aren’t necessarily into,’ admitted the 35-year-old. ‘And I don’t mean like hitting her hard, I just mean a spanking… I’m like, “Hi, I’m gonna spank you on your bottom if you don’t stop right now. Like, this is ridiculous.”’
Clarkson says disciplining her tots can be awkward when she is outside the home because of other people’s mixed views on smacking.
‘That’s a tricky thing when you’re out in public, ’cause then people are like, you know, they think that’s wrong or something, but I find nothing wrong with a spanking,’ she said, adding that the same discipline worked with her when she was growing up in Texas.
‘My parents spanked me, I did fine in life and I feel fine about it,’ said Clarkson. ‘I’m from the South, y’all, so we get spankings. My mom would call the principal if I ever ended up in the principal’s office and give permission for her to spank me. I’m a well-rounded individual with a lot of character, so I think it’s fine.’
