Katy thought Orlando would be ‘fun for now’

DESPITE spending a year gadding about sharing their PDAs with the world, Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom were never ‘serious’ about each other, apparently.
The pair announced their intention to take ‘respectful, loving space at this time’ yesterday after just over a year together as photos emerged of Orlando cosying up to a different brunette.
But both moved to make light of the split, with a source close to The One That Got Away singer telling People magazine: ‘It was never really supposed to be serious between them.
‘When it first started, she was basically like “This will be fun for now.”‘
Meanwhile, an Orlando insider confirmed the Pirates Of The Caribbean actor had been ‘happy’ with Katy, but ‘was not in the mindset to settle down’ and had always been ‘keeping his options open’.
‘It wasn’t as serious as everyone was making it out to be,’ the friend added.
That said, things had been ‘shaky’ for a while, Bloom’s friend revealed.
‘It just became more and more work to make it work,’ the friend said.
‘Because this wasn’t something permanent, it just became time to take a break.’
But there was no big showdown.
‘There was nothing dramatic or over the top,’ the friend said. ‘Katy’s going through a lot of changes for her new music — both physically and emotionally — and this was a part of that.’
Perry’s source seemed to echo that, saying her split from former beau John Mayer was ‘a lot harder’.
‘This really wasn’t a bad breakup for her,’ the Perry insider said. ‘This just ran its course.’
