Howard: My solo career was hit by a lack of confidence

HOWARD DONALD canned his own attempt at a solo career at the last minute because he was crippled by a lack of self-confidence.
In 1996, the dad-of-four was planning to release a track called Speak Without Words — until internal turmoil scuppered it.
‘I don’t think I would have made a good solo artist,’ he explained. ‘Confidence… I’m used to having people around me.
‘If I could compare myself to Jason, he’s the sort of person that could go away for two months all by himself. I’ve not seen him with a girlfriend. He’s the sort of person that can do his own thing.
‘I am a bit of an introvert. I am only an extrovert around people that I know. I am not very good at meeting people. Or dinners or speaking s*** to somebody.’
The singer also admits that being a member of Take That does not mix well with being a hands-on dad to his two youngest children. The father of Bowie Taylan, 14 months, and four-week-old Dougie Bear confessed to GP that he has been ‘struggling’ as he juggles a newborn and a tiny tot.
‘I was up at 5.30 this morning,’ said the knackered dad. ‘I am up every two hours. It’s really hands-on. I wouldn’t want to be anything else, but it affects my work.’
