Hits pursued by bear… Paddington’s chasing top UK box office films

PADDINGTON and its money-spinning sequel have smashed the top 20 of the highest grossing British independent films.
Only The King’s Speech, The Inbetweeners and Four Weddings And A Funeral have taken more money at the UK box office, new figures show.
The first Paddington, released in 2014, has notched up £38.9million in UK cinemas. Last year’s Paddington 2 has done even better, taking £42.5million so far.
Both films have outperformed such homegrown blockbusters as 2009’s Slumdog Millionaire (£35.4 million) and 1982’s Gandhi (£21.4 million).
