Gwyneth Paltrow’s preposterous gift for that tricky-to-buy-for person

NOT content with offloading jade vagina eggs, Gwyneth Paltrow has outdone herself — by compiling a Christmas gift guide that includes the suggestion to buy a whole village.
Yes, that’s right, if you’ve got a certain someone on your list who’s always impossible to buy for, an entire Spanish village could be theirs for a mere $172,910 (£135,180).

To be fair to the Iron Man star, this section of her list — which is available to peruse at her lifestyle website Goop — is titled The Ridiculous But Awesome Gift Guide and given the tongue-in-cheek tagline: ‘Be honest: This is why you’re here in the first place’, so she may not expect many takers.
The outlandish gift guide also includes such must haves as: an Hermès surfboard for $7,700, breakfast with giraffes, a zero-emissions yacht, and a design your own Aston Martin — prices ‘upon request’ (the mind boggles).
For something a little more reasonably priced, perhaps go for the loofa subscription, from a mere $6 per month.
But back to that intriguing village. The place in question is Lugo in northwestern Spain and Gwyneth appears to have chosen it at random from a site called Aldeas Abandonadas, quite literally meaning ‘abandoned villages’.
According to the site, Lugo doesn’t require much work and includes a hay barn, cellar and 22 sq metre bread oven.
