Get the lowdown on British music duo Snakehips

GP checks in with Snakehips — Oliver Lee and James Carter — about their worst habits, memorable gigs and pot plants. Their single Don’t Leave (with MØ) is out now.
What REALLY winds you up about one another?
O: James always has his phone on ‘do not disturb’. I think he’s hiding from a shady figure in his past.
J: Ollie’s the worst morning person when we’re on tour, he wakes up in a grump. It’ll last until he has a beer then he’s back to ten!
Have you any pet peeves about the music industry?
O: A lot of labels find it hard to develop artists properly these days. You see people whose projects just get lost because they’re not immediately making huge hits.
What’s the most bizarre thing you’ve ever witnessed while playing a gig?
J: Some guy in Vancouver got up on the front of the DJ booth and tried to stage dive backwards, but everyone got out of the way and he just hit the floor. Then he got kicked out of the club.
Have you ever had a near-death experience?
O: I was almost run over by a lorry. I didn’t think it was turning, then the dude did some crazy turning circle. James saved my life.
What are your most treasured items?
O: A big cactus in my living room called Dennis. It’s a great plant.
J: My old Nintendo 64. It’s out of action but makes me nostalgic every time I see it.
