Fright night in the studio for Gabrielle Aplin

IF THERE is something strange in your neighbourhood, who you gonna call? Gabrielle Aplin apparently.
In an exclusive chat with Guilty Pleasures, the singer told us about her brushes with the supernatural.
‘I was recently at a studio in Seattle,’ began Gabrielle, who topped the UK charts in 2012 with her cover of Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s The Power of Love. ‘The control room was locked but it had a glass door you could see straight through.
‘When I looked in, there was this bald guy wearing glasses,’ she said. ‘I said to my boyfriend, “Has one of the string players turned up early?” Then the engineer was like, “It’s still locked, no one could have got in”…’
Gabrielle, 24, was also spooked by ghostly goings-on in her kitchen.
‘In my flat in London — and my boyfriend and friend are witnesses to this — there was a plate on the counter and it was moving, sliding across all by itself,’ she exclaimed. ‘I was up for hours Googling the science behind how this could have happened — it was the weirdest thing.’
And if her pop career ever fizzles out, Gabrielle — who has an interest in paganism and witchcraft — could make a fortune as a paranormal investigator.
‘I love potions,’ she said. ‘If I get a cold, instead of taking Nurofen, I’ll mix turmeric, ginger and honey.’
However, something that brings Gabrielle toil and trouble is the number four.
‘I’m always noticing it! I’m not diagnosed but I think I have obsessive compulsive disorder,’ she said.
‘I have these obsessive things I do — if there are four candles on a table, there would have to be three or five,’ she added. ‘It’s because there is no middle quantity of four.’
Gabrielle’s new single Waking Up Slowly is out now.
