Idris Elba bid to be best of the hunch in Notre Dame remake

IDRIS ELBA will play Quasimodo in a new movie version of The Hunchback Of Notre Dame for Netflix.

The Luther star, 45, will also direct and produce the modern retelling of the 19th century novel by Victor Hugo.

And the actor and DJ is going to produce the music for the film.

Netflix has described the movie, which has not yet been given a title, as a ‘sonic and musical experience’.

Set in the 15th century, Hugo’s novel about bell ringer Quasimodo and his love for charismatic dancer Esmerelda was adapted into an animated Disney film in 1996, featuring the voices of Demi Moore, Tom Hulce and Kevin Kline.

British actor Charles Laughton played the hunchback in a 1939 flick of the classic tale.
