Duck à la wrong… fishing fan Matt Cardle hooked a quacker

OH, DUCK! Matt Cardle didn’t know whether to laugh or cry when he accidentally caught a duck while fishing.
The Desire singer, whose comeback album is set to storm the charts this week, told GP: ‘I do a lot of fishing. I have always been a fisherman. I haven’t caught anything the last eight times I’ve gone. Then I caught a duck! It was trying to fly away but got caught in the hookbait. We saved it though, thankfully. I was crying and laughing in equal measure.’
The serenity of fishing has become a major part of the 35-year-old’s new, healthier way of life. But he doesn’t think abstinence is the way forward in his battle against prescription drugs and boozing. ‘I’m a very hedonistic person, I’ve always enjoyed partying,’ said Matt.
‘Having control isn’t abstinence. Abstinence is cutting everything out forever. I don’t practise that. Rehab taught me how to take control of myself without it ruling my life.
‘It’s like when your dad buys you your first car or motorbike and he’s like, “If you crash it again I’ll take it away from you”, but you have one more go. I won’t crash it this time.’
Matt’s album Time To Be Alive is out today, on Sony.
