DJ Jonas Blue not feeling the Brits love for electronic dance

DJ JONAS BLUE has sounded off against the Brits for not showing enough love to electronic dance music.
Despite being nominated for two Brit awards earlier this year, the Essex lad reckons EDM deserves its very own category after losing out to the likes of Zayn and Adele for best British single and video.
In an exclusive chat with Guilty Pleasures he said: ‘Those guys need to understand that there’s this scene we’re part of and that it would be hard to put me in the same bracket as people like Little Mix because we’re not the same artist. That needs to speed up.’
However Jonas — real name Guy Robin — believes critics are becoming less snobby about the genre. ‘With artists like The Chainsmokers, people are going, “Oh, this is EDM as well”, and that’s great because it had been pigeonholed as a certain type of sound.’
The Perfect Strangers singer — one of Vevo Lift’s breakthrough artists — also put the needle on another problem: his love life.
Currently single, Jonas told us he has developed a talent for sniffing out girls who are only in it for the fame. ‘You’ve got to be able to read people,’ he said. ‘Being a DJ, I’ve been able to read a lot of crowds over the years. If you were with someone, you’d be able to tell if they’re genuine or not.’
Next on the agenda is making waves across the pond. ‘I’m working on it. I think it’s a lot harder when you’re British trying to crack the US — they only let certain ones in!’ he laughed.
His new single Mama, featuring William Singe, is out now.
