Clean Cut Kid chat awkward dates, stage invasions and fan break-ups

How did you guys form?
Mike Halls: ‘Me and Ev (Halls) got set up on a date and started jamming from the very start. I was in a different band six years earlier, and had met Saul (Godman) who was a weird hermit guy living in a practice studio. We bumped into him one night busking and I was like, “That’s the guy!” We met Ross (Higginson) on a train journey. We geeked out over obscure indie Seattle/West Coast underground stuff. It turned out that he was the perfect drummer for the band.
Do your fans do weird things?
Ev: A lot express their love for Saul on Twitter. We have requests to help people get back with their exes and a lot of requests for us to play at weddings. We’d definitely encourage more weird stuff!
Are you guys dating and is it hard for romance on the road?
Mike: We’re (Mike and Evelyn) married. It hasn’t been weird, so far!
What’s the worst date you’ve been on?
Ev: I got taken on a date to a Chinese restaurant, and the guy’s dad showed up. They started singing Happy Birthday… even though it was six months away. They knew that, but just thought it would be hilarious.
Mike: I went on a date with a girl who was like 4ft 8in tall. At the end of the night I kissed her on the top of the head because she was so short. Really awkward.
And your drunkest moment?
Mike: It was at Glastonbury. Saul hardly drinks but got hammered and stage invaded Rat Boy. We were like “Yeah, lets stage invade the head-line act!”.
The band drop new single Leaving You Behind and debut album Felt on May 5.
