Chris Evans off air as ‘incredible’ mum, 92, dies

CHRIS EVANS pulled out of his Radio 2 breakfast show yesterday after his mother died shortly before he was due to go on air.
In a message to listeners, he said: ‘It’s all OK. Mum needed to be at peace.’ He said Minnie, 92, would have been ‘furious’ if she ‘had the first idea I might not have shown up today because of her’.
Sports reporter Vassos Alexander read out Evans’s message. He said: ‘Chris had to go just before we came on air. He’s left me a little note to read out to you. This is a little bit difficult for me because we’re talking about one of my best friends.’
In the note, Evans said: ‘The reason I’m not with you today is because just before we came on air my mum passed away and I needed to go straight back home to be with the family.’
He said his mum ‘deserved to be at peace,’ adding: ‘She was an incredible woman.
‘Anyone who has ever met her will tell you that and ultimately there was no battle lost, only a life won. Every single day.’
Ken Bruce presented the rest of the show. Evans, 52, is expecting twins with his professional golfer third wife Natasha Shishmanian, 38. They have two children.
