Cate Blanchett and Rihanna fly in for a date with Ocean’s 8 mates

THEY play a gang of criminals who plot to rob a glitzy ball — and the cast of Ocean’s 8 were having one too last night at the film’s London premiere.
Sandra Bullock and Sarah Paulson messed around, pretending to get in each other’s way, while Cate Blanchett and Rihanna delighted waiting fans with their choice of outfits.
Blanchett’s appearance on the red carpet, accompanied by her 10-year-old son Ignatius, came just hours after it was revealed she will make her National Theatre debut next year.
The 49-year-old is to star in When We Have Sufficiently Tortured Each Other by Martin Crimp, which opens in January.
Also at the movie premiere were Helena Bonham Carter and Mindy Kaling, but two of the other stars — US rapper Awkwafina and Oscar-winner Anne Hathaway — didn’t make it.
Speaking at the event in Leicester Square, Bonham Carter said shooting the movie had been ‘absurd’ because so many paparazzi and fans followed the cast around. ‘But when you put us all together the chemistry was like a bomb,’ she said.
The film, released next week, is the female-dominated spin-off of the heist trilogy that starred George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon. It tells the tale of a gang of criminals who plot to rob New York City’s Met Ball.
