Beverley Knight: I thought ‘this cannot be happening’

BEVERLEY KNIGHT has described how she was ‘stunned’ to learn she had a life-threatening condition when her stomach swelled mysteriously.
It turned out the Greatest Day singer, 44, had muscular tumours in her uterus, but because her belly was blowing up she at first feared she might be expecting.
‘I noticed that my tummy was very swollen,’ she told Hello magazine.
‘At first I assumed I was pregnant. I thought “this cannot be happening”.
Explaining her reaction, she said: ‘I’m a proud aunty and godmum, but having children of my own has never been part of the plan.’
Beverley describes her diagnosis with uterine fibroids and subsequent hysterectomy as a ‘wake-up call’.
‘When I was told that my condition was creating a high risk of a stroke or worse, I was stunned.
‘I never get ill and this was a real wake-up call. It’s been a slow recovery but I should be healed completely soon.’
Now the soul singer is on the mend and planning to release an album of Songs From The Stage with West End stars Amber Riley and Cassidy Janson.

Beverley said the trio, under the name Leading Ladies, formed a great bond working together.
‘There was really great camaraderie and energy between the three of us,’ she said. ‘We had so much fun.’
