Anna Friel hopes Butterfly will help trans community

ANNA FRIEL hopes her latest TV drama will have the same positive impact as her lesbian snog on pre-watershed Brookside 25 years ago.
The 42-year-old, spotted at Red magazine’s 20th birthday party in London on Tuesday, wants her ITV series Butterfly to help the trans community.
It will focus on 11-year-old Max, who dresses as a girl at home and decides he no longer wants to hide his identity from the outside world.
‘Think back to 25 years ago, to another girl… “ahhhh”. And now all that time on, now it’s the blink of an eye, so hopefully we’ll make that same progress,’ said Friel.
She says negative attitudes towards parents allowing their children to choose to be gender-fluid are down to a ‘lack of understanding, lack of education’.
