All you need to know about The Tide’s Austin Corini

SINGER Austin Corini, 21, of US boy band The Tide, talks about well-timed waves, pet peeves and his parents’ divorce. Their new single Put The Cuffs On is out now.
How did you and the lads — Drew, Levi, both 19, and Nate, 20 — settle on the band name?
We all went to the beach in LA and there was this girl who Nate thought was cute. Trying to impress her, he ran out into the water, was wiped out by a wave and lost his shorts. We said, “We want to go with The Tide”. It’s the perfect inside joke.
Did Nate get the girl?
He played the game, then she was like, “I have a boyfriend”.
What are your bandmates’ worst habits?
Drew is a little gassy. When he drops the bomb it’s always in a confined space. Nate and Levi leave clothes everywhere. I’ll leave a hotel room for two minutes and it’s like a tornado went up.
Your new song is Put The Cuffs On. Are we speaking literally or figuratively?
If it was our fans’ choice, they would all say, “It’s kinky!” But ultimately it represents a writing process we went through, “What does it take for a person to lose their morals?”
What’s the toughest subject matter you’ve written about?
A year ago, my parents split up. I wasn’t home, so I wrote the song, The One You Want, which helped me grow closer to them.
