£19m for Idol work? Well I’m worth it, declares Katy Perry

KATY PERRY did a Roar-ing trade when she pocketed a reported £19million to join the new series of American Idol.

And the star reckons she’s worth every penny.

‘I’m really proud that, as a woman, I got paid,’ explained Perry. ‘You know why? I got paid more than like pretty much any guy that’s been on that show.’

The Chained To The Rhythm singer added she waited until ‘the right time’ to sign up for the US talent contest, which is set to return after a one-year hiatus.

‘We’ve always been in negotiations,’ said the 32-year-old, ‘It’s never been right, but now it’s perfect.’

As for what kind of judge she’ll be, Perry assured wannabes she won’t be sharpening her tongue. ‘I give constructive criticism,’ she told US radio show 103.5 KTU. ‘I am polite, but firm and super realistic.’
